Men's Basketball
Since joining the Northwest Athletic Conference in 1984-85, the Clackamas Cougars have been synonymous with excellence in men's basketball both academically and athletically, competing with 34 participating colleges in Oregon, Washington and British Columbia. Coach Clif Wegner began as head coach after assisting hall of fame coach Royce Kiser for a season. At CCC, Wegner has been a part of seven Southern Region championships and four NWAC titles.

Men's Basketball Coaching Staff
Clif Wegner
Coach Wegner has 39 years of professional coaching experience. Professional coaching memberships include: NWAC (22 years), NABC (30 years) and the OACA (39 years).
He has also coached professional basketball in the International Basketball League and coached 17 years at the Oregon high school level, including head coach at Oregon City High School for nine seasons. Under his leadership, the 1988 and 1989 OCHS teams achieved the No. 1 ranking in the state, won back-to- back Three Rivers League championships and captured third place at the 1989 state tournament.
Wegner taught 32 years of high school English, humanities as well as British and American literature - the last 28 years at OCHS.
Starting at CCC in 1998, his teams have claimed NWAC championships in 2007, 2009 and 2010, and Southern Region Championships in 2001, 2003, 2007, 2009, 2011, 2014 and 2015. Cougar teams also achieved No. 1 rankings in the NWAC in 2001, 2002, 2007, 2009 and 2010.
Wegner was named the Southern Region Coach of the Year in 2001, 2003, 2007, 2009 and 2011 and NWAC Coach of the Year in 2007, 2009 and 2010.
Since 2000, CCC teams have played 54 NWAC tournament games, winning 61 percent (33-21) of championship tournament contests and placing at 10 of those 15 championships. CCC men are the only NWAC program to have qualified for the last 15 consecutive NWAC men’s basketball championship tournaments. The Cougar men have also finished in the top three in the Southern Region for the last 16 consecutive seasons.
Wegner’s career collegiate record spans more than 500 games, with 388 wins and 163 losses, career winning percentage of 70.4 percent.
He has been a resident of Oregon City since 1985 and lives with his wife, Ruth.
Brian Stamme
Brian Stamme returns to the Cougar coaching staff for his sixth season under a new title as associate head coach. During his time at Clackamas, Coach Stamme has assisted the Cougars to two league championships (2014 and 2015) and five NWAC tournament appearances, including an eighth-place finish in 2015.
Prior to joining Clackamas, he served as an assistant coach in the NWAACC for six years at Lane Community College in Eugene. In 2005-06, his first season, he was the head manager and director of basketball operations. In the spring of 2006, he was promoted to an assistant coach and was left in charge of the program when head coach resigned in June. In August, Stamme was tabbed as associate head coach for the next five seasons. Stamme’s career at Lane CC was highlighted by two trips to the NWAACC tournament.
Stamme started his coaching career as the student assistant varsity coach at South Tahoe High School in 2003. Then he worked two years with the University of Oregon men’s basketball team as a manager from 2003 to 2005.
Stamme focuses on helping coach team and individual defense, skill development, academic and recruitment coordination, as well as a number of other responsibilities.
He and his wife, Morgaine, are both graduates of the University of Oregon. Stamme studied history, geography and basketball during his time as a Duck. He graduated in 2008 and began teaching physical education classes at Lane Community College in 2008 and at the University of Oregon in 2009. In 2016, he earned his master’s degree in coaching and athletic administration from Concordia Irvine University. He currently teaches physical education classes at Clackamas and works as an assistant to the athletic director.
